Time

With less than 24 hours until the year changes to 2012, it’s a very appropriate day to think about time.

Time is our workplace. It can be our friend or our enemy, depending on how we choose to spend it. It moves steadily forward no matter what we do. Everyone gets the same amount of it each day. Everyone gets the same amount each year. Yet there is an enormous variation in what we make of the time we have.

In a few hours, we’ll arrive at a significant milestone in time. Like every other moment, it will come and go, and be different for each person who experiences it. Some will make the most of it. Others will let it pass by.

On this last day before 2012, it is sparklingly clear to us that time moves steadily forward. You cannot save it. You cannot trade it or avoid it. You can only use it. That, it turns out, is plenty. Look how very far the world has come in the last 2 years.

Though we’ll get caught up a bit in the momentous number on this New Year’s Eve, time will continue to move along. Use each moment sincerely and to the best of your ability, and time will always be your friend.

It’s been quite an eventful year. Here’s to those who will make the next year even better.

Small Success

At some point during this day you’re sure to find a few minutes that would otherwise have been wasted. Today, take those few minutes and use them for productive, creative effort.

Don’t be concerned with what you’ll get from it. Just put your mind, your heart, your passion and full attention into the effort. Don’t do it to impress anyone or to gain any kind of advantage. Just do it to give something of value to life.

Spend a few moments creating value where it did not exist before. Spend a few precious moments expressing yourself in a positive, unique way through the efforts you put forth.

Even the smallest positive accomplishment can improve the tone of your whole day. Once you establish a positive momentum, its energy will carry over into everything else you do. Enjoy a small success today. It can lead to something grand.

Take the Plunge

If you’re not a little bit apprehensive, then you’re not reaching high enough.

To move forward, you must put yourself on the line. That means going beyond your comfortable routine. Your abilities increase only when you regularly strive to go beyond them. Your effectiveness improves only when challenges pull you beyond your limits.

That sinking feeling you get, when moving into uncharted territory, is a precursor to success. Preparation and planning are vital, and confidence is essential. Yet alone they do not bring accomplishment. At some point, you must take the plunge. You’ll never be as ready as you wanted to be. It will never be as comfortable as you’d like it to be.

Do it anyway, and make the commitment to give it your best. Challenge undertaken with sincerity of purpose, will build in you the strength needed to prevail.
